Good Morning Year 1
For those of you who have chosen to stay at home we will be providing a weekly outline of the learning we will be doing in class over the week. Hopefully this will give you some guidance so you can continue to help your children learn (and keep them busy) whilst at home. However please also feel free to consolidate learning that you have already done. Additional tasks could include writing a daily diary, fact book, practising number bonds, counting up in 2s, 5s and 10s, playing TT Rock Stars, Phonics Play etc. Remember the most important thing is to continue to hear your child read, daily if possible.
Have a great week,
The Year 1 Team
Monday - our focus is to settle the children, welcome them back and talk to them about what our 'new normal' looks like in school including new routines and procedures. The children will then be creating beautiful rainbow name signs to decorate their own learning table with. We are having an art focused afternoon and the children will be creating a vibrant rainbow collage using tissue paper.
Tuesday - the day will start with phonics. We will then be heading outside for a fun bug hunt around out school woodland identifying all the different bugs we can find. The children will follow this up with a descriptive writing task about their 3 favourite bugs and will be encouraged to use lots of adjectives to make their writing interesting. In Maths we will be revising number bonds to 10 and 20 all week whilst being active outside. In the afternoon the children will be creating a beautiful blossom tree and having fun with chalk outside.
Wednesday - we will start with phonics. The children will then be writing a 'thank you card' to a key worker of their choice (nurse, teacher, delivery driver etc). We will look at how to construct a letter and the type of language we need to use (e.g. I am writing to you to thank you for...). In Maths we will be revising number bonds to 10 and 20 all week whilst being active outside. In the afternoon the children will be creating origami frog hoppers as well as completing some mindfulness colouring.
Thursday - we will start with phonics. The children are then going to watch a sweet video about social distancing and how we can change our behaviours to show friends we still care. They will then design their own poster to convey the same message. In Maths we will be revising number bonds to 10 and 20 all week whilst being active outside. In the afternoon the children will be creating a folded paper butterfly and completing some observational drawing outside.
Friday - we will start with a phonics. We then have a creative writing task planned. As inspiration children will play a fun 'guessing game' where they describe an imaginery creature using a visual prompt and the rest of the class guess which creature they are describing. The children will then design their own imaginary creature (the stranger the better!) and describe it using lots of great adjectives! In Maths we will be revising number bonds to 10 and 20 all week whilst being active outside. Our fun creative activity will be to create a Lion face template and play lots of games outside.
