Working from home
On the dated tabs on the right of this page, you will find some activities to carry out at home.
Please refer to the ' How to help at home' tab on the right hand side of the Early Years Foundation Stage page for more information and ways you can best support your child in their reading, writing and maths.
We understand that this is a unique situation and you may also be working from home. Remember that reading can be a part of your daily learning from home too.
In Reception our learning time throughout the day is divided into:
Whole class carpet times
These are short and snappy sessions and focus on learning a new skill or consolidating some prior learning. These cover a range of areas of the curriculum but are usually focused around phonics, reading, writing and maths.
Adult focused activity with a small group of children
These adult led activities often follow on from, and are linked to, our whole class carpet time. In these activities children are supported to apply the skills covered in our carpet session. The children are encouraged to be as independent as possible when carrying out these activities, whilst also being supported to extend their understanding by an adult.
Free flow choosing time (choosing our learning)
This forms a large part of the children's day. During this time children are free to choose from a range of activities which support their learning and development in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This is a time when children apply their skills and knowledge through play where adults may intervene and interact to support and extend their learning.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Reception Team
