Music is an important part of Langshott life and all children are encouraged to sing and play music. We offer a range of musical opportunities at our school. In class, we use an online service provided by Charanga Online Music School. This is an online scheme of work for all year groups.
Pupils in year 2 participate in the Music Festival at one of our neighbouring schools. This gives our children the opportunity to perform with other children of the same age.
Pupils in year 3 learn to play the recorder. All pupils have the chance to practise their new skills which they have been taught in the classroom at home if they have access to the online resources. Music World is a safe online space where children can go to learn, explore and develop playing and musicianship skills. Children love Music World with its avatars and fun music activities and they like earning coins and badges as a reward for completing their musical tasks
All pupils have the opportunity to learn either the guitar or become part of a rock band through the Rock Steady club. These are taught by specialist music teachers who will come into the school regularly. We are also hoping to widen our range of availible instrumental lessons this year, more information to follow!
Pupils also practise their singing skills at a weekly Music Assembly. We are currently in the process of recording our very own CD in which every child will be participating in. Our school choir also sings at a number of local community events, including at our local churches, singing our favourite Christmas carols.
Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and life to everything. - Plato
Music is an enriching and valuable academic subject. Research evidence shows that a quality music education can improve self-confidence, behaviour and social skills, as well as improve academic attainment in areas such as numeracy, literacy and language.Department for Education.
